Welcome to Alwaysbluff, I’m Jared Hamby (aka TheWacoKidd).
So the WSOP has been pretty awful for me. I played 13 events without even making it to day 2. In most of the tournaments I got my money in very good, so no worries. A couple of the times, though, I got caught making a play; just some negative variance after my hot streak in April and May where I cashed for over a million dollars, won 3 WPT prelims, and took 2nd in the Mandalay main… so I guess I really can’t complain too much!
But now the main event is going well I have 315k going into my day 3 after finishing day 1 with 60k. I was down under 10k after losing with a few sets early, but was able to chip back up and then double to 35k with top pair with a better kicker. I then took advantage of a tight table and players wanting to make day 2, and chipped up to 60k to end the day.
Now day 2 was a sick roller coaster ride. I was up to 115k after winning a big pot with KK on a J high board and also winning a lot of small pots with preflop raises and c-bets. I was at 125 when I got moved to a new table with a bunch of chips on it, and the 2 players on my left were both over 200k and very reckless, so I won some small pots and was up to 190k when the hand of the tourney happened for me.
With blinds of $800-$1600 I found AA and made it $4500 to go from early position. The guy on my left who had about 325k and was one of the chip leaders makes it 17k, everyone else folds and I decide we are too deep to smooth call so I make it 45k. Instantly he says all in and I obviously snap call. He had AK (lol!) and I hold and double to about 385k to seize the chip lead, but then things went south for a few hours.
I got repopped a few times when I was weak pre, then lost nearly 100k when I flopped a set and lost to the nut flush, the first time I paid someone off all tourney! I then had an interesting hand come up 1k-2k. With 2 limpers in front I again look down at AA in the cutoff and make it $7800, the button cold calls behind (the super aggro donk) and one of the limper’s calls. The flop comes Q86 rainbow and I bet $14500 and the button calls, the limper folds. The turn is the J of spades so I decide to check raise because I know if he 3 bets me 1 pair is very likely no good, so I check and he bets 17k. I make it 45k and of course he says all in. I quickly folded my hand and he later told me he had 9Ts, his favorite hand according to him. This is the guy that hit a straight flush with 9Ts on Ryan Daut’s quads, so he said it was his lucky hand, lol!
So after a few more whiffs with AK and AQ type of hands I was back down to 160. I was, however, able to chip back up with some preflop raises and then won a big pot with KK. We played half the 1200-2400 level and it went pretty well for me. I picked up a few hands and won some small pots and chipped back up nicely to end the night 315k, about 28th or so out of 350 players. So all in all I’m very satisfied with my position heading into day 3. I only know half my table so far but I have the most chips by far and I don’t recognize any of the players, which is nice.
I look forward to updating you guys on what happened, and I sure hope I have some interesting things to write about. We have some awesome people that are going to be contributing to this site and I think it should be a lot of fun.
Good luck to all!
Jared
